Gar on the fly

I tied some rope flies a few weeks back and put in below the dam in the Saluda River. I've had two goals this summer, to catch a striper from the yak, and to get a gar in on the fly. I fish for gar on spinning tackle and live bait all the time so I knew what I was up against.

I'm a little ashamed of using rope but it worked. It worked well. I got it all on video and did it from the yak so I felt like a boss that day. Here's a little clip of some tail walking.
